Vellex guide

Vellex, family owned and established in 1985

Vellex is a family owned and operated freight and logistics business, set up in 1985 and run from Wetherill Park in Sydney. It provides national freight distribution with its focus on the eastern states, and its conditions of carriage name the carrier as Vellex Logistics Pty Ltd. Its safety page lists accreditation under the NHVR Accreditation Program 2019, covering basic fatigue, mass and maintenance management, plus TruckSafe, and says it is accredited under the New South Wales Clean Fleet program. The same page describes a driver changeover system on long trips so drivers get home to rest.

Vellex logistics sites

Vellex lists these sites:

  • Head office: 17 Daniel Street, Wetherill Park NSW
  • Sydney West: 41 Frank St, Wetherill Park, plus the Frank St Warehouse at Building D, 32 to 36 Frank St
  • Melbourne East: 34 Discovery Road, Dandenong South
  • Melbourne West: 28 to 30 Permas Way, Truganina
  • Brisbane: 99 Radius Drive, Larapinta
  • Newcastle: 13 Arunga Drive, Beresfield
  • Central Coast: 4 Mildon Rd, Tuggerah
  • Adelaide: Units 4 and 5, 151 to 159 Ryans Road, Parafield Gardens

Its facilities handle metro and regional work. Capital city branches draw on resources in regional centres for interstate distribution, and with the other transport operators it works alongside, Vellex says it can reach any part of the country.

Vellex transport services

Under Australia Wide Transport, Vellex takes cartons, pallets and freight of irregular shape or size. Pallet Distribution runs through central consolidation hubs in Sydney and Melbourne, which its site says handle more than 2000 pallets a day. Non-Standard Freight is its name for anything that is neither a parcel nor a pallet, and as a hardware carrier it is used to items that vary in size, shape and weight. Cross-Docking brings a container of pre-sold goods into a Vellex facility to be de-stuffed, packed and delivered in one operation, reducing double handling.

Vellex asks for cartons of no more than 25 kg each unless they sit on a pallet, and for palletised goods ideally to be shrink-wrapped to the pallet. Under its own conditions of carriage, Vellex and its subcontractors keep hire pallet accounts with CHEP and Loscam.

Warehousing in Sydney and Melbourne

Vellex 3PL runs a warehouse management system with barcode scan picking, EDI links, several warehouses and bin locations, and reverse logistics. An August 2020 news post says its move to two Melbourne sites, at Truganina and Dandenong South, made up to 1000 racked pallet spaces available at Dandenong South. Under its own rules, every delivery into a Vellex facility needs a booked timeslot.

Vellex tracking

On Vellex's own site, entering a consignment note number shows the latest tracking event. Its registered customers use Vellex Online to enter and print consignments, manifest each day's freight, save pickup details and view proof of delivery images, while Vellex Exchange links key customers, suppliers and other businesses with Vellex and can integrate their ERP and EDI systems. Its tools also cover barcode scanning, online consignment status and real-time GPS tracking of its vehicles.
