Hi-Trans Express guide

Who Hi-Trans Express is

Family owned and independent, Hi-Trans Express Pty Ltd runs its business from a head office in Adelaide, with branches around the country. Founded in 1969, it specialises in moving palletised freight by road, on both general and express services. It has held HACCP certification since 2001, has been recognised by the Department of Primary Industries for carrying meat since 1997, and takes part in the National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme.

From Broken Hill to the eastern capitals

The company started out carrying freight between Adelaide and Broken Hill, taking groceries and mining equipment to Broken Hill and bringing wool back. In the late 1970s it pushed on to Brisbane with fresh produce out of Adelaide, opened a Sydney branch in 1982, and later built a Broken Hill to Melbourne lane through Adelaide, opening a Melbourne branch to serve it.

Hi-Trans Express depots

The depots on its contact page include 128-138 Bedford Street, Gillman, which is the Adelaide head office; 28 Davis Road, Wetherill Park in Sydney; 5 Ashley Park Drive, Chelsea Heights in Melbourne; 1979 Ipswich Road, Rocklea in Brisbane; and 9 Kanandah Road, Broken Hill. Hi-Trans also works with agents in Darwin and Hobart, and every branch has a local delivery fleet.

What Hi-Trans carries, and what it does not

Hi-Trans moves pallets and skids by road within and between states, and its services page also lists local distribution, break bulk distribution systems, and temperature-sensitive and fresh food transport for its own customers. It owns its fleet rather than subcontracting, and refrigerated vans, freezer vans and refrigerated tautliners are among its trailers, most available in road train, B-triple, B-double or single configurations.

Its rules for shippers without a Hi-Trans account are stricter. For them it takes no parcel freight, delivers business to business only to sites able to load and unload, and will not carry livestock, cars, cable reels, perishable food, dangerous goods, uncrated machinery, unpalletised freight or anything highly fragile.

Hi-Trans can come up in a Senditt quote beside other carriers for the same pallets, so the options can be compared before you book.

Hi-Trans Express tracking and Hi-Trans Online

The Hi-Trans homepage has a box for entering a consignment number, and the sign-in page of its Hi-Trans Online portal has a Track Consignment box. Hi-Trans account customers use Hi-Trans Online to create freightnotes, make bookings and view invoices and proof of delivery. On that screen a consignment is followed from pickup and loading through interstate transfer and branch arrival to final delivery, then scanned POD images are added, and the signature can be seen once the freight is delivered.

Every Hi-Trans vehicle carries GPS. Hi-Trans asks its own pre-paid shippers to label each item with a compliant barcode before it is picked up or dropped at a depot, so it can be scanned along the way.

When Hi-Trans is booked through Senditt, the consignment sits in your Senditt dashboard alongside the rest of your freight.
