Capital Transport guide

Capital Transport in Sydney, Melbourne and beyond

Capital Transport was set up in 1990 and describes itself as a national, full service transport and logistics business. It keeps offices in Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, each state run through its own company, and the Melbourne office sits at 75 to 85 Nantilla Road, Clayton. Within those cities it moves anything from an envelope up to 22 tonnes of steel. Its site also cites more than 2,300 vehicles for deliveries in metro and regional areas, and freight heading interstate is handed on through a network of more than 130 other carriers.

Capital Transport couriers

Couriers run on motorcycles, courier vans and trays, with every job controlled by radio operators. Most vehicle classes come at a Standard, Express or VIP level, VIP being the priority option. A courier takes up to 25 kg in a 50 cm cube, a station wagon up to 125 kg all up, a half tonne van or tray one pallet and 500 kg, and a one tonne van or tray two pallets and 1000 kg. A pallet rides in a van only when it is below 1.2 by 1.2 metres and 1 metre high; anything bigger goes on a tray or truck. Roof racks take lengths of up to 6.5 metres.

Taxi trucks and permanent vehicles

The taxi truck fleet includes trays, tautliners, pantechs, hydraulic tailgates and crane trucks. Classes climb from 2 tonnes, for up to three standard pallets, through 4, 6, 8, 12 and 14 tonnes, up to a 20 tonne semi-trailer that holds 20 to 24 pallets. Between the couriers and trucks, Capital carries cartons, pallets, customer orders, trade items, timber and building materials, car parts and office furniture. Capital also arranges permanent vehicle hire directly with its own customers, looking after booking, routing and despatch for those vehicles.

Home delivery and 3PL warehousing

For retailers, Capital's own home delivery service takes whitegoods, browngoods and furniture into the buyer's home with crews of one, two or four. Its logistics arm handles 3PL and 4PL work, with software for picking carriers and one invoice covering transport and storage. Its 3PL warehouses are spread over Queensland, Victoria, Western Australia, South Australia and New South Wales. The Kemps Creek site in New South Wales covers 18,000 square metres off the M7, and Wingfield in South Australia holds up to 4,000 pallets and offers wharf cartage. Warehouse services include container de-stuffing, kitting, cross-docking, returns and online order fulfilment linked to Shopify or WooCommerce.

Capital Transport tracking

Capital's own account holders log in on its website, and Capital runs its own tracking software, iLogix, to follow a job from booking through to delivery, watch the vehicle on a map in real time and receive delivery notification. Its transport management system also records status updates and proof of delivery for metro and regional last mile work. Booking, job tracking and invoices all sit behind that customer login on Capital's site.

Book Capital through Senditt and its jobs are tracked in your Senditt dashboard with the freight you send on every other carrier.
